Science is a story!

Our lab is full of nice humans who care about each other, share, collaborate, and function as a family where everyone is welcome. But that's also true of many labs, as it should be. What sets us apart is our focus on, and celebration of Scientific Storytelling. 

Beyond his day job in the lab, Prof. Cohen is also professional storyteller of the human elements of science who has run shows in New York and San Francisco, performed in nightclubs around the world, and run countless training programs and workshops for scientists on how to learn, harness, and share the stories of what Science is and what it means to do research.

Why stories? 

As a group, we also believe that Scientists have a 'Social Contract' to the public (esp. taxpayers). One of the most wonderful things of our society is that we have agreed to support scientific research, understanding that it is this research that can propel us forward as a species. While research takes time, and often covers complex topics, it is absolutely essential to be able to communicate what we do, and why, to the public.

Public storytelling in fun places

Getting out and engaging with the public is a fantastic way to share your work, excite people, and practice communicating.

It's an oldie but a goodie. A good science story can change how the audience (even scientists) think about science, what's possible, and how we ‘got to now’.
