The gap between the skin and devices, such as IV lines, diabetic sensors, and dental implants, often leads to infection or dislodgement and slipping. Ellen is engineering protein coatings to improve skin adhesion to implants to reduce bacterial infection, increase mechanical stability, and improve patient treatment. Before joining the group, she completed her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Cornell University where she designed living materials for health and sustainability. Outside of the lab, Ellen loves to run and enjoy a coffee with a good book!
